Coding and Computational Thinking

Since 2013 students in some classes at Magill School have been learning about computer coding. From 2016 it will become mandatory for all Australian students from reception to year 10 to be taught aspects of computer coding as part of the Australian Curriculum Digital Technology learning area.

We have begin implementing the Digital Technologies learning area in the Junior Primary through students using a range of computer coding platforms including Scratch, Scratch Junior, Tynker and WeDo Robotics. Students have used these coding tools to learn what is referred to as Computational Thinking. In simple terms Computational Thinking is the range of problem solving skills that will be increasingly important in order for our students to become successful members of an increasingly complex and rapidly changing workforce.
