Coding, problem solving and SPHERO robots

Some classes have been exploring Sphero robots and how these can be used to teach problem solving and coding skills. Sphero are small spherical robots that can be linked to our iPads and operated using block coding apps, such as Blockly and Tinker. To start with a class of year 2 kids have been working on the simple problem solving questions such as ‘how can we code a Sphero to move in a perfect square shape?’ or ‘how can we code a Sphero to move in the shape of a letter S while also changing colour?’

These lessons have involved lots of problem solving skills and working collaboratively, and have been an interesting way of embedding coding into maths tasks.
